The 48-year-old star of “Once Upon a Time,” Chris Gauthier

After appearing in Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen” and “Once Upon a Time,” Chris Gauthier, 48, passed away.

The revelation was verified by TriStar Appearances, the actor’s talent agency, who informed USA Today on Monday in a statement that Gauthier passed away on Friday following a “brief illness.”

“In his statement, the agency said that Chris was a beloved character actor who touched so many of us in both television and film.” “His loss is felt not just by his fans but by those of us who were lucky enough to know him more personally.”

USA Today received confirmation of Gauthier’s passing on Monday from the actor’s agency, RED Mgmt.

“He was a kind, witty, passionate and empathetic man and we will all miss him dearly,” said the statement. “Our hearts go out to his family that he spoke of with such love and pride and we ask that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

After learning of Gauthier’s passing, TriStar Appearances partner agent Chad Colvin posted on social media to express his shock.

“I cried for hours in shock and dismay when his wife contacted me with the news yesterday. It took me until now to completely prepare myself emotionally and mentally so that I could write this,” he stated.

“Without Chris and his enthusiasm and dedication, I wouldn’t be where I am now,” he stated.

On the ABC fantasy series “Once Upon a Time,” which starred Ginnifer Goodwin, Gauthier played William Smee in a number of episodes from Seasons 2 to 7. In 2003, he also portrayed Shack in the movie “Freddy vs. Jason.”

Also, he starred as Mikey in the romantic comedy “40 Days and 40 Nights” from 2002 and as Seymour in the action-drama film “Watchmen” from 2009.

Christmas television movies such as “Paper Angels” and the “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” series are among the roles that Gauthier has acted in. His most recent appearance was in the Hallmark holiday film “Ms. Christmas Comes to Town” from 2023.

The comedy-sci-fi series “The Triple Eight” and the horror movie “Chimera’s Ghost” are the other two planned projects in which he will feature.
