Newsmax: Rick Santorum: IVF Was Called a “Confusing Issue” by the Media

On Saturday, former senator Rick Santorum, R-Pa., expressed his disapproval of how in vitro fertilization has been portrayed in the media, saying, “I think the left media has deliberately made this a confusing issue.”

On Newsmax, Santorum highlighted that neither Democrats nor Republicans advocate for banning IVF. “This is a created issue of the left,” stated the politician.

While the Catholic Church opposes IVF, Santorum, a Catholic, pointed out that he is not in favor of banning the procedure. He emphasized moral issues with the 500,000 frozen embryos kept in the United States and advocated for moral oversight of the IVF sector.

It has never been controlled. Thus, that’s actually the key query at hand,” he stated. “It’s not whether it’s going to happen or not; it’s whether there should be some ethical regulation of the industry.”

In a Friday article on Truth Social, former president Donald Trump offered his thoughts on the IVF controversy: “The Republican Party will always promote the development of robust, prosperous, and healthy American families under my direction. Our goal is to facilitate parenthood rather than complicate it for moms and dads.”

The Republican Party is divided over the Alabama Supreme Court’s recent decision to classify frozen embryos as children.

Nikki Haley, a Republican candidate for president, first concurred with the decision. According to USA Today, she said to NBC News, “Embryos, to me, are babies.”

She subsequently “clarified” that she supports protecting parents’ rights over the management of embryos.

Haley stated on CNN’s “King Charles” that she “did not say that I agreed with the Alabama ruling.”

“This case was based on and should be based on the rights of those parents for their embryos and to make sure that they have the responsibility with the doctors on how they should be handled, not more than that,” Haley stated.
