Christie: There Was Nothing Wrong with the Hur Report

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that special counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of secret documents did not exceed any lines despite its negative portrayal of the president.
Hur noted that Biden was “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” but he did not suggest that any charges be brought against the president in his report on Biden’s sensitive information, which was made public last week, according to The Hill.
The way the study describes the president has drawn criticism from Biden and those who support him, calling it “inappropriate” and “politically motivated”.

Christie, who served as New Jersey’s U.S. attorney for seven years, stated on “Meet the Press” that “when you start off [the] report by saying that he ‘willfully and knowingly retained classified documents,’ they had to give the reasons why they weren’t prosecuting.” Yes, that is against the law.”
“So, the question for the prosecutor is then, ‘Why aren’t you bringing charges?'” stated the former governor of New Jersey. And he basically presented two explanations. President Biden’s illness and lack of recall were the first, and his cooperation was the second.”

He pointed out that “once documents were discovered, he let them go in and do whatever they needed to do to get those documents and retrieve them, as opposed to what President Trump did.”
Christie also took issue with Republican assertions that there is a two-tiered legal system because Biden was not prosecuted for his handling of confidential documents while Trump was.
“In fact if there was a two-tiered system of justice, what would have happened would have been they just would have announced that they weren’t prosecuting him and they wouldn’t have given any of the reasons,” Christie stated.

In a statement, he emphasized, “I believe the Biden White House would have been happy if he had been charged rather than having that information surface during a reelection campaign. The truth is that, when you have an independent counsel, a special counsel appointed by his own justice department, who concludes that Joe Biden cannot bring a trial because of this, it is far more damaging politically than whether or not people would have supported or disagreed with him being charged. This is because seventy-some percent of Americans already question whether or not Joe Biden is too old for the job.”
